Finding a suitable shipping box first. The minimum recommended size is 22x16x12. Using packing peanuts is usually not a good idea because the monitor will work its way to the side of the box and can result in damage.  Going to a box store (Lowes, Home depot etc..), a sheet of foam can be purchased in 3/4″ thickness found in the insulation dept. Lining the box with foam using a sharp knife will make a safe shipping container. I also recommend having the handle laying next to the case rather than extended in the carrying position.  Having the handle down will keep it from being damaged in shipping. Bubble wrap is  a good alternative to using foam or maybe a combination of both.  Always ship with the lid if possible and remove all accessories inside. The lid will protect the knobs from any damage. If there is an internal field battery inside the unit, and you are comfortable removing the case, removing the battery will help on shipping costs. Remember, SMB connectors can be damaged if you are unfamilier with a case removal. Following the above instructions gets the shipping weight down to about 37  pounds for a 1200.
